Green Square Consulting was established in 2016 to provide specialist consulting and advisory services to the public transport sector. Its founding member, Riaan Loubser over 30 years’ experience in consulting to predominantly public sector and private sector clients in South Africa and the Middle East.  It operates in the Small, Medium and Micro Enterprise (SMME) space and a such can respond quickly to clients. 

Our vision is to contribute in our own, small way to assist Government in planning and implementing sustainable public transport by integrating transport and land use initiatives to the benefit of the planet.

We are particularly well positioned to assist clients with transport economic solutions to the complexities facing urban cities, business strategies, integrated public transport network planning and the associated operational costing of providing public transport services.  

We are particular in providing realistic, practical, and cost-effective solutions to all projects.  We are acutely aware of the pressure on the allocation and effective spending of public funds as well as the increased emphasis of the role that public transport must play in the social and economic upliftment of marginalised communities and building resilience and spatial justice for all citizens. 

Over the years Riaan has been exposed to various projects and has particularly skilled himself with understanding and agreeing on the required scope of work from the onset of the project. He manages client expectations by making it his job to getting to know and understand the client on a personal level – making it more comfortable to manage unintentional scope creep. 

Being involved in mostly complex projects where expectations from the community, politicians and officials must be managed, he strives to approach each project in a simplified, step by step, easy to understand manner. Client relationships can either benefit or hinder a project and in this regard, Riaan makes a huge effort to understand the client, not only from a technical perspective but importantly from a human perspective.

Realising that we must expand our market offering, Green Square Consulting has recently entered the broader commodity market, focussing initially on the coal sourcing and transport market. Although the market is said to be overtraded, Riaan believes it is exactly then when it is time to enter a market. High coal prices have led to unreliable coal supply and unsustainable transport prices. We provide international clients with comfort that the quality and volumes required will be met and we also source transport companies willing to transport coal at reasonable prices.
